Among other things, Holmes was known for writing pithy and direct opinions. Fingers was one of the greatest pitchers in the game's history who also earned his meal ticket with great efficiency. He was a closer, who needed very few pitches to get his job done. At most, he would hurl only two innings per appearance. His career foreshadowed the rise of the modern reliever, which is now a critical part of any team’s pitching staff. RHP, b. 1945.
