    <answer label="William Eckert">Exec, 1909-1971.  These men earned their positions for reasons other than ability, and soon found themselves to be totally out of their leagues.  McKenna actually took law classes to brush up on his skills after being appointed to the Court.  When Eckert, a retired Air Force General, was named baseball commissioner in 1965 sportswriter Larry Cox remarked "My god, they've hired the Unknown Soldier."  Eckert had not even attended a game in 10 years, and knew nothing about how the sport operated.  The owners voted him out of office in 1969, even though his contract had not yet expired.</answer>
